Writing for Marvel Hero Tales
As part of my role at Kuato Studios working on Marvel Hero Tales, I regularly found myself writing Marvel character and setting dialogue for use in our Panel System.
This Panel System served a 2D image with accompanying speech lines written for that unique interaction. We also served Story Panels to set and close out the narrative of the event the player was in. I've worked with a professional Marvel writer on these and completed around a 1000 of these panels, each with their own unique lines of dialogue. |
Pathfinder Session Writing
I've written several sessions for Pathfinder, the latest of which involved players rolling around a giant slime Katamari style to remove a dangerous demon from the underground groves belonging to earthen folk.
Hugging the coastline, the sea appears to be in your favour as it remains calm for the rest of your journey. Halfway through the second day, Captain Morgane docks at the small fishing village of Claes to drop off her first set of cargo. You help her to offload some of the crates, and get a chance to stretch your legs before having to board the boat once again.
Players wake up or come to on the ship, in place of Ophelia is a letter covered in juices. Weird. Upon inspection it's some sort of bodily fluid. Yum.
The letter reads - [GIVE PHYSICAL LETTER] 'I have ur strong Wife, will be needin' her for a smij. Don't worri. She bak soon. But if u reali can't wait 10 yeers (impatien much?) bring 100,000 Gol to the waerhoose at Claes. We traed. Thanks bai. 'Smantha'.

The players can choose at this point whether to go and get Ophelia.
If they do, let's do this session. If not, full improv.

NOVEL - RESOLVE
I finished a fantasy adventure novel, it was based on my love of storytelling and steeped in the culture of games. Inspired by series like The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy, this novel attempted to bridge the gap between gaming and literature.
Three chapters of the novel can be found below, as well as an excerpt from a later chapter.

"We walk normally," Anrothan said, breaking a silence that felt as though it had gone on forever, "Keep your faces hidden,"
They'd finally reached the main street where the eastern exit stood, a pair of gates that dominated the skyline. The great walls of the city matched their size, standing over thirty feet tall. In the shadow of this great wall was a small group of soldiers. They all donned heavy armour and carried large glowing weapons. It may have been less guarded, but these guards didn't look like they would be pushovers. Anrothan and Lissa stood casually on the side of a wall, looking over at what separated them from the outside. Isaac and Lucina stood nearby, under a roof where the rain couldn't get them. Isaac shivered as his whole body quaked under the cold dampness, Lucina looked to be just as cold.
"There's only six of them, we can take them," Lissa joked, her teeth chattering.
"Alright, I'll take the two furthest away," Anrothan said, his tone was serious.
"I was joking Ann," Lissa said, rolling her eyes, "I've got us covered,"
"Fine, make it quick," Anrothan said.
"How's your throwing aim?" Lissa asked, she offered him a small glowing steel ball with red lines flaring across it in a segmented pattern. It fit into his hand perfectly.
"Where do you want it?" Anrothan asked.
"Anywhere that'll distract the guards would be lovely," Lissa asked, shivering in her wet clothes.
Anrothan took aim and tossed the ball a few feet away from the guards, on the opposite side of the street from them. The ball rolled to a stop a few feet from where Anrothan intended it to, he shook his head with disdain. Isaac watched the ball intensely, the red lines that shone across its segmented pattern begin to travel outwards. The blaze of red inflicted the steel until it exploded in a flash of light, flames erupted into the sky. Not only the guards but the surrounding crowd turned around and looked on in horror at the flames before them. People could be heard screaming over the raining and ran away, the flames a symbol of the very terrorist group that attacked just days before."
